Efforts Underway to Complete Bus Rapid Transit Project on Schedule

Construction of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) corridor stretching from Gofa Mazoria through Mexico to Piassa is actively underway to ensure completion within the scheduled timeframe.

As part of Addis Ababa’s initiative to provide convenient and efficient public mass transit, the project—designated as the BRT B2 corridor—is one of the key routes selected for rapid transit infrastructure development.

Spanning a total length of 8.2 kilometers, this segment of the project connects Gofa Mazoria to Piassa via Mexico.

Eng. Mekonnen Mulugeta, the lead project engineer, stated that excavation, storm drainage installation, and various structural works are currently nearing completion along a 1.5-kilometer section of the right lane, stretching from Kera through Bulgaria to the KKare Building near Mexico.

Engineer Mekonnen added that backfilling and sub-base preparation for 600 meters, 250 meters of base course construction, bus station builds, and utility line installations are progressing rapidly.

The construction is being executed by China Communications Construction Company (CCCC), with project management and supervision jointly handled by SYSTRA and Kore Consulting Engineers.

Traversing five sub-cities, the corridor is designed to enable dedicated rapid movement for public transit vehicles—significantly reducing travel times and commute costs while enhancing daily mobility for city residents.
