Addis Ababa City Roads Authority Announces Five-Year Plan to Construct Over 1,500 Kilometers of Roads

The Addis Ababa City Roads Authority has unveiled an ambitious five-year plan to construct more than 1,500 kilometers of new roads aimed at improving urban mobility and supporting the city’s economic growth.

According to the Director General, Engineer Muhedin Reshad, the majority of the planned projects have already completed their design phase, while the remaining are currently under study. The projects are driven by strong public demand and are expected to significantly enhance socio-economic activities and ease traffic congestion across the city. Construction is set to commence in the 2019 Ethiopian fiscal year with secured budget allocations.

In addition to expanding the road network, the Authority will place strong emphasis on the maintenance of existing infrastructure to ensure efficient, safe, and reliable service delivery.

Over the past five years, the Authority has successfully completed nearly 1,600 kilometers of road construction and maintenance works, addressing long-standing public concerns in various parts of the city. Furthermore, 107 kilometers of cobblestone roads have been developed in collaboration with local communities.

As a result of these sustained efforts, Addis Ababa’s total road network has expanded from 6,553 kilometers to 8,227 kilometers, marking significant progress in the city’s infrastructure development.
