Efforts to Reduce Flood Risks Continue Across Addis Ababa
Addis Ababa, August 8, 2018 E.C. — Efforts to reduce flood risks across Addis Ababa have intensified, with drainage lines clogged by sediment and waste being cleaned, repaired, and reconstructed in various parts of the city.
The Addis Ababa City Roads Authority has been carrying out extensive improvement works in flood-prone areas during the 2018 summer season. The Authority has continued these efforts during the rainy season, repairing damaged rainwater drainage systems and addressing areas vulnerable to flooding.
During the past week, drainage cleaning and maintenance activities were carried out in several locations, including the Summit Giorgis Church area, Mexico Square–Temamafo, Sumeya School area, the area between the British Embassy and Golagol, CMC–Meri, Atlas–Desalegn Hotel, Afunchober–Menan, and the Africa Convention Center area.
The Authority has also called on the public to help protect the city's road infrastructure by keeping open drainage channels clean and preventing waste from being dumped into drainage systems.
The Authority emphasized that public cooperation is essential to reducing flood risks and protecting the city's road infrastructure.
