Over 1,300 Kilometers of Road Construction and Maintenance Planned for the 2019 Fiscal Year
The Addis Ababa City Roads Authority has planned to carry out various road construction and maintenance projects covering 1,369.79 kilometers during the 2019 fiscal year.
Among the construction works planned for the fiscal year, top priorities include 60 kilometers of asphalt road, 63 kilometers of cobblestone paving, 46.8 kilometers of gravel road, 87.2 kilometers of pedestrian walkway reconstruction, 21 kilometers of bicycle lane construction, and a total of 14 bridges, retaining walls, and culvert structures.
On the road maintenance side, plans include 130 kilometers of asphalt repair, 30 kilometers of gravel road maintenance, 54 kilometers of cobblestone repair, 508 kilometers of drainage system cleaning and maintenance, 325 kilometers of pedestrian guardrail maintenance and curbstone painting, along with various other road infrastructure repair tasks.
Alongside the construction and maintenance works to be executed this fiscal year, monitoring, supervision, and awareness-creation activities regarding road assets will be carried out in coordination with other stakeholders to ensure the safety and proper serviceability of the city's road network.
