Rapid Measures Being Taken to Reduce Flood Risks
The Addis Ababa City Roads Authority is carrying out rapid corrective measures across various parts of the city to mitigate potential flood risks and prevent traffic disruptions during the rainy season, building upon the extensive maintenance work completed during the dry season.
Rapid repair works have been executed on roads damaged by heavy rainfall flooding. The areas where corrective measures were implemented include 49 Condominium (40/60), Lebu – Jemo Musika Sefer area, Jemo Mikael – German Junction direction, Jemo Glass Factory area, German Beg Tera area, and the Lebu Mebrat – Lafto corridor.
The Authority will continue to strengthen its efforts to mitigate flood risks by undertaking swift interventions in other designated vulnerable areas as well.
Additionally, the Authority urges the public to play an active, positive role by jointly preventing illegal activities that obstruct the proper function of drainage systems.
Flood prevention and preparedness received significant attention and were carried out extensively during the dry months of the fiscal year. Notably, in the 2018 Ethiopian fiscal year alone, 592 kilometers of roadside drainage lines were cleaned and repaired, numerous bridges underwent reconstruction and maintenance, and partial and full corrective works were completed across 71 identified flood-prone locations.
